I’ve been spending more time lately travel blogging and am really enjoying it. One of the things that I am unexpectedly enjoying the most is getting to know other travel bloggers and reading about and seeing beautiful photos of their adventures. I made a new, talented friend the other day, Kana Imamura, who has a fabulous blog, Life in Wanderlust, and an even more amazing Instagram account. In 2015, Kana decided to walk away from her corporate life and do what makes her heart happy: wander, discover and travel. What could be more inspiring than that?!
One of the fun things she publishes is a monthly column, Featured Friends, where she interviews other interesting travel bloggers. She has been kind enough to allow me to steal the idea and feature her as my first in a new interview series called “Meet a Travel Blogger”. So, with no further ado, enjoy meeting and learning about Kana and Life in Wanderlust, as I have
Meet a Travel Blogger: Kana Imamura, Life in Wanderlust
1. How did growing up in Tokyo shape you? What brought you stateside?
Growing up in Tokyo definitely shaped me as a international, adventurous, independent city girl. While I didn’t quite have the typical upbringing in Japan, every day was exciting. The impeccable and reliable transportation system made me independent and at a very early age thanks to how safe Japan is. Oh and of course, Tokyo made me a big foodie!
I moved to the U.S for college! My family is multi-cultural (Japan & U.S), I’m dual-citizen and my Grandparents live in Seattle, so moving to the states for college wasn’t too big of a deal. I did my undergraduate studies in Washington and after my Bachelor’s, I’ve moved to Portland, Detroit, Atlanta and now Los Angeles!
2. What inspires you?
In the realm of being a Travel Blogger, photographs inspire me the most. That’s probably why I emphasize that my main platform is Instagram; I spend a lot of time on my own account and looking through others. I have yet to learn the skill of being ubiquitous so I enjoy living vicariously through others. Everyone sees places and experiences travel differently, which I adore.
In a general sense, I’m inspired by people that are go-getters, people that aren’t afraid of judgement and are out living their life to the fullest. I like to think I at least try to do the same but I’m constantly inspired and admire those who do. Whether it’s starting a business, finding their true passion, raising a family, learning a new instrument – honestly, whatever it is, as long as it’s to keep their heart full, I’m inspired!
3. Your favorite place on Earth?
If I’m allowed to be insanely specific, it would be the bathtub of my parent’s house where I grew up. In Japan, taking baths is a daily routine and it’s one of my favorite things to do. It’s a deep tub that’s relaxing, quiet and calming. I think it also has to do with the fact that it’s home. My family is around and I feel so comfortable.
4. Anything else about yourself you are willing to share?
I’m willing to share pretty much anything! I love getting to know other Travel Bloggers and enjoy being a friend, not a competitor. I offer services to new or upcoming bloggers and even full blown consulting.
