All of the Colorado mountain ski resorts regularly invest in infrastructure and improvements. Many ski resorts are seeing new lifts or other exciting investments come to fruition this ski season. But Snowmass, Colorado may be seeing the most significant improvements. And as we learned this fall on a family trip to Snowmass, the resort is very family friendly.

The Snowmass Base Village and the Limelight Hotel Snowmass open on December 15, 2018. In addition, the new Snowmass Mountain Club, new restaurants and retail spaces also open this winter. We can’t wait to get back!

Snowmass Base Village Grand Opening – December 15, 2018

Snowmass Base Village debuts on December 15, 2018. The Grand Opening celebrates the opening of the new Limelight Hotel Snowmass, ice skating rink, and events plaza. A weekend of activities and fun include music, lift ticket deals, and more.

The hotel will debut just one day ahead of the Snowmass Base Village Grand Opening Celebration on December 15, 2018. The Grand Opening celebration will kick off at 3 p.m. at the base of the Snowmass ski area. The first Bud Light Hi-Fi concert of the season features Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow at 5 p.m. The entertainment continues from 5 – 7:30 p.m. around the new ice rink for a community-wide celebration. Entertainment features DJ Naka G, live music at the Limelight Lounge, special guest appearances by pro climbers at the new climbing wall, a skating exhibition on the ice rink and fireworks.

New Limelight Hotel Snowmass

The new Limelight Hotel Snowmass features 99 hotel rooms. It boasts a new restaurant and lounge as well as a children’s game room. And a new five-story climbing wall runs up the font of the hotel. The Limelight Hotel Snowmass is modeled after the company’s existing properties in Aspen, Colo. and Ketchum, Idaho. It is located adjacent to Snowmass Mountain’s Elk Camp Gondola providing ski-in/ski-out access. Like the other Limelight properties, it features an expanded continental breakfast, après ski deals in the Lounge, live music and adventure activities. A ski concierge and pet-friendly rooms top off the offerings.

Insider Tip: Be sure to visit Snowmass during Christmas for the most magical holiday experience.

Colorado’s Tallest Rock-Realistic Indoor Climbing Wall Comes to Snowmass Base Village

We think this sounds pretty cool! Snowmass is now home to Colorado’s largest indoor rock-realistic climbing wall, towering at 54 feet high. It runs directly up front of the new Limelight Hotel in Snowmass. The massive five-story climbing wall features a granite-like surface which mirrors climbs near Snowmass. One such climb is the popular Grotto area on Independence Pass. The wall features an auto-belay system with three different lanes and six routes.

Snowmass Mountain Club Debuts

Nestled in the new Limelight Hotel, the Snowmass Mountain Club offers exclusive access on and off Snowmass Mountain. On-mountain experiences include winter activities like first tracks, moonlight cross-country skiing. Summer activities include mountain biking, hiking and off-road tours. Plus an on-site concierge is available year round. The facilities are equipped with ski valet, family locker rooms, and après-ski in the club lounge. As such the Mountain Club blends wild adventure with luxurious service and countless amenities. Member benefits include private garage parking directly below the Club, ski-in access and access to the hotel’s fitness facilities and hot tubs.

New Renovations at Viceroy Snowmass

Viceroy Snowmass has recently completed construction of the outdoor pool, bar and spas. The Nest pool bar returns with local beers and craft cocktails. The three soaking tubs offer a temperature of 102-104 degrees to accommodate both recreation and rejuvenation after a long day of skiing. The two newest spas boast a waterfall wall and two infinity edges.

New Dining Experiences at Snowmass

The new Limelight Lounge offers a menu of wood-fired pizzas, garden-fresh salads and a creative locally sourced entrées spun in internationally inspired ways. NEST has relocated on the slopes of Snowmass to become a new slopeside ski in/ski out heated pool bar. It features seasonal specialty cocktails and lunch service including house made stews, soup and burgers.

But what our kids would most be on a quest to find are the s’mores carts! Not only are there free Snowmass S’mores, from 3:30–4:30pm every day. But they are served from branded s’mores carts, resembling oversized marshmallows. The carts include classic s’mores plus a rotating flavor of the day, changing seasonally. This season Snowmass S’mores also includes special flavors for holidays.

Outdoor Pools at Snowmass

Snowmass boasts spectacular outdoor heated swimming pools. The Viceroy Snowmass pool’s slope-side location is conveniently located next to the resort’s new ski-in, ski-out bar, NEST Bar & Grille.

Liana Moore

Liana Moore is a third-culture kid with a hangover from those days that is a severe case of wanderlust. She is more comfortable driving the cliffs of Amalfi, Italy or the dirt roads of Costa Rica or attempting to decipher the street signs of Osaka, Japan than navigating the theme parks of Disney World. But she loves it all. She doesn't believe a vacation is complete without an adventure. Her husband and kids know well that "adventure" often is code for mishap or challenge and it usually results in a good story. They seek outdoor experiences whether in the mountains, on a beach or in the jungle of a tropical country. Her favorite vacation is... all the ones she hasn't yet taken, as well as those she plans on taking again. And, that list is so, so long. But she continues to extensively explore her home state of Colorado, spends lots of time wandering Texas, California, New Mexico, Costa Rica, Mexico, Norway and has even explored Kazakhstan.
